Environment Aware And
Restoration Network
— EARN
Restoring the environment and empowering communities affected by crude oil spills and climate change.
We are on a mission to rebuild and transform communities and people affected by decades of oil spills and climate change in the Niger Delta oil-producing areas. This region has witnessed severe environmental degradation, destruction of farmlands, fishing industry, water contamination and loss of livelihoods in affected communities. We in EARN are here to provide support and relief to communities and people.
EARN was founded and registered in Nigeria in 2022 by Professor Sylvester Egwu, a trained Mechanical Engineer from Howard University, Washington, DC, United States, with great passion for a sustainable environment in tandem with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
EARN is on a mission to accelerate disaster recovery and restoration of severely oil-polluted and damaged communities and the environment in Nigeria in particular, and globally.
We believe in equity, environmental and climate justice and humanity. When nature is disturbed or destroyed, people and communities suffer — creating loss of biodiversity. Vulnerable people — women, children, elderly, disabled and youth — are hardest hit. EARN is working to uplift and transform communities with your support and donations.
Four programs.
One mission.
Each initiative targets a specific dimension of the environmental and social crisis facing oil-impacted Nigerian communities.
Clean Water Initiative
Delivering safe and clean water to communities hit hard by crude oil spills across Rivers and Bayelsa states — people who have no choice but to drink from contaminated sources.
Rural Education Support
Funding classroom furniture, sanitation facilities, and learning materials for 200 students in Owa-Alero — children who currently study in severely under-resourced conditions.
Reforestation Campaign
Planting trees to soak up carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, reduce heat and flooding, and complement global reforestation efforts across Lagos and Nigeria.
Youth Empowerment Program
Training unemployed young people in oil spill cleanup, sustainable fishing, and agriculture — turning environmental crisis into lasting economic opportunity for Niger Delta communities.
Help us launch these bold and ambitious programs.
Every contribution gets us closer to our funding goals and the communities that need us most.
Prof. Sylvester
Egwu
Mechanical Engineer · Environmental Activist · Educator
Trained as a mechanical engineer at Howard University, Washington, DC, United States, Professor Sylvester Egwu has spent decades bridging the gap between technical expertise and grassroots environmental advocacy.
Witnessing first-hand the environmental devastation caused by unchecked petroleum extraction in Nigeria, he founded EARN in 2022 with great passion for a sustainable environment in tandem with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — to apply engineering rigour, community organising, and global partnerships to one of Africa's most urgent ecological crises.
Under his leadership, EARN has been accepted onto the GlobalGiving and Benevity platforms, enabling international donors to fund on-the-ground change in the communities that need it most.
